The year 2021 is shaping up to go down in history as a memorable year for YesWeCollege student-athletes. In the year that symbolized the moment of restart after the pandemic that also severely affected the school and sports systems in the United States (and the world), YWC’s standard bearers carved out a role for themselves as absolute protagonists, writing extraordinary chapters in their own personal history and that of the organization founded by Nicolo Baudo.
After Yannick Bright’s inclusion on the NCAA Division I All-Americans, a result of equal excellence came from the NJCAA Division I championship. The star performer this time was Giorgio Probo. That with a terrific year, he followed up his 2020 All-American nomination by winning the national title with his Iowa Western as well as the league’s MVP award.
Class of ’99, born in Bergamo and with a standout past in Atalanta’s youth ranks, Probo has been the driving force behind the Reivers, who captured the Junior College top league crown for the second time in their history. Let the numbers speak: 22 games, all as a starter, 5 goals and 6 assists. And a devastating impact when the ball weighed the most, namely in national championship competitions. In fact, Giorgio netted the opening goal in the Nationals’ first match, then deciding the semifinal against Tyler and opening the scoring in the 2-0 win over Arizona Western that gave the title to the Reivers (with an assist from the other YWC standard bearer, Edoardo Degl’Innocenti, for the second mark).
An outstanding performance, such that the United Soccer Coaches left no doubt that they voted him the best player of the season. A triumphant year, in short, with the successes on the field adding to the entrepreneurial ones considering that Probo is also the founder of Aggs Sport, a company that with the patent of Gripsocks technical socks is emerging strongly as a supplier of many clubs and players of Serie A and the National Team, as well as a partner of the YesWeCollege Camp that took place last summer in Piancavallo.
Congratulations Giorgio: we are more proud than ever of our MVP!
